Moving from a motherboard with ISA slot to onw without, so I need to ditch my venerable SB16ISA and get a PCI card. All I need something that plays nicely with Mandrake 8.0, does stereo, and is cheap. How are some of the older PCI Sound Blasters? All I need is stereo for a little music through my crappy desktop speakers, and stereo for my headphones when I play games. I'd prefer something under $50. I was looking at the Guillemot Maxi Muse, but it doesn't look like it's got Linux drivers. Please chime in with your suggestions.

You should be able to find a SB128 for under $50 no problem.

Also using the Soundblaster 128 PCI with no problems whatsoever.

Im not sure if it makes a difference on Mandrake but the Hercules Muse XL is NOT supported on RH. I had to switch to a SoundBlaster PCI 512. works really well, too

Thank you all for your replies. I'm heading out today to get a SB512 PCI, I think.

My SB 1024 Live! plays just fine on my Mandrake 8.0 (no problems on any version of Mandrake I have tried).

Cheers :)

The Creative Esonique PCI works well. ESS1371 chip. Less than $30.00

Good Luck,
