hi all, i was fooling around with xgl/beryl, and now when i run a regular gnome session, it "kinda" freezes on startup. i can only run KDE and failsafe gnome, cause regular gnome and xgl, wont work properly.
things seem to be working but its like the desktop is not responding. when i click on
the "show desktop" button i have an error that tells me that im not running a window manager...
how can i fix this? im running ubuntu edgy
thank you all

Sounds like you might have edited some Gnome files you shouldn't have. Do you have an ATI card and followed this howto? (http://lhansen.blogspot.com/2006/10/3d-desktop-beryl-and-xgl-on-ubuntu-edgy.html), that got it working on my laptop straight out with a clean option of switching between WM's from the login screen. That should also work for an nvidia crad, just skip that part once you have those drivers working good :)
As to fix the problem, try reinstalling the gnome packages. Easiest way would be to use synaptic and mark them for re-installation

Just renaming (or removing completely) ~/.gnome might help too. It's also possible that Beryl is just crashing when you start, which in some cases leaves you without a WM. That happened to me a lot with some versions of Beryl in KDE.

I actually used this guide to get it working on my laptop, works very well but there are still too many issues with it for me to run it all the time. Haven't had any crashes because of it though...
