I use Netscape 4.76 on my office PC and have it running from the first boot in the morning until I leave for the day. In 9 months it has never crashed, the fonts look even better than IE's and most everything works.

There have been suggestions in previous posts for alternate browers. Should be easy to find. Konquerer is one of them.

Konqueror 2.0 here, works well and its faster than netscape. It even uses netscape plugins.

Yeah, konqueror would be ok but it can't handle alot of javascript worth crap for me so I don't have much use for it yet. Opera is fast but I think it has way too many bugs yet. So the one I like the best is Mozilla right now. It's a heck of alot faster than netscape and looks much better. The Netscape 4.x series is horrendous on linux in my opinion.

???
I am running Opera 24 hours a day without ever crashing. It is cool and fast. 2 things I really enjoy about Opera:
1. The quick search box.
2. The bookmark nickname function.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I've been using opera for 'bout a month and have had no crashes or problems with it yet. I love it and it has a lot of nice features (I also love the quick search box :)

Netscape 4.72 has been sucked the least of all the Netscape versions for me. Version 4.76 gave me endless problems and we won't even talk about Netscape 6.

I use Konqueror now and haven't had any problems. It doubles as a file manager (which I have yet to use it as) and has a good look and feel to it, IMHO.

Well I personally love mozilla. Its really becoming a viable browser. It does take a while to load up but its tabular support is besting that of IE.

I hate to say it, but Inernet explorer is still 50 times better than any of these sorry browsers. I find myself booting to win2000 just to use IE.

Ends up being the same as the 'What's the best distro' questions.

Everyone has their own opinion. It all depends on your hardware, distro and software versions you have. They work for some but not others.

Actually i dont think it has to do with "certain things work for some and not for others. " I think Windows 2000 w/ IE is better than anything linux has to offer as of now. I hope this wont always be true. Not trying to bash linux, i'm just being honest and realistic.

Peace out

Yeah, Opera is fast but I always have problems with it having text in pages laying overtop of other text and that just looks bad to me. Still gotta give it to mozilla. Can't wait until mozilla hits 1.0, it will be the best browser out there in about a year or so.

That's your opinion...

Is it just me, or is Geddy just out on the forums to criticize linux?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if there is one thing I ever learned in life, it is that opinions need to have some sort of foundation, or else the opinion means nothing.

Geddy: Maybe if you'd spend more time looking into how to get Linux to work properly on your system and less time on the forums bashing it, you'd have a half-decent linux box running.

Especially with the ATA controller issue you had posted in another section of this BBS. This is an easy problem to fix, considering you actually look for the answers. I had this same issue, but have it licked because I decided to go out and look for a fix instead of whining and saying how much better M$ software is.

This "Best Browser" argument is kind of pointless. MSIE isn't free and doesn't follow standards (and Lord knows what else happens behind our back). Linux browser performance, due to the fact that not all hardware vendors are supporting Linux, is largely dependent on the system configuration you have set up. So of course there will be people on here that swear up and down that Linux is the worst thing in the world because it won't work on /their/ system. On the flipside you'll have people that claim their install of linux is rock solid (probably because they took the time to figure out what works, hardware and software-wise).

There are just too many variables out there to officially declare something "sucky". So please, Geddy. Take it to a Windows mailing list, not here. If you want help, just ask for it, and don't turn it into a Windows vs. Linux deal. Stick that in the rants section. Or not at all.
