I have read all the KDE docs and it says there is a scan button to scan for netscape plugins it says kmenu > Prefrences >web browsing but I have no Prefrences folder! and the only option in konqueror under plugins is enable them globly whatever that means. So is there any way I could put them in there manualy? I really like this browser but I want flash, ect... anyone know how to?

I'm using mandrake 8. I'm guessing you probably are also. I searched several forums trying to answer that question for myself recently and never did find a solution. I'm specifically trying to get flash working.

Before someone says the obvious, there is no file on mandrake 8 for manually searching for ns plugins for konqueror.

Also like the above post says when you go to settings -> configure konqueror -> konqueror browser -> plugins, the *only* option there is one that say "enable plugins globally" you can either tick it or not and either way it makes no difference.

If I run either Netscape 4x or Mozilla both which were installed by the mandrake installer both have flash support working so you would think that with "enable plugins globally" konqueror would be automatically using the plugins from one of these but it's not working.

Thanks for any help! :)

woohoo! Ok THIS is how you do it. First off there is a VERY good mandrake 8 page and this is where I learned how to do this. Here (http://www.desktop-linux.net)

just look in the howto's.. Ok but you open your package manager and install the kdebase-nsplugs package and then you can go "Kmenu > Configuration > KDE > Web Browsing > Netscape Plugins" and now you can scan for the plugins read more of on how to do it and things you need at that page I gave you. yay!

Nice Work! I'm surprised this is hidden away on the 2nd CD and not installed by default...

After installing it if I try to configure the plugins I get an error "There was an error loading module 'nsplugin.desktop' The diagnostic is:" and it's just blank after that with only an ok button. The configure plugins page looks the same as before with just the one box to tick or untick *but* all the plugins are working so this doens't really matter. Finally flash in konqueror and the best part is I don't have to deal with the explosion of windows opening to macromedia.com everytime I used to go to a page that used flash :)

Here's a direct link to the very basic instructions: http://www.desktop-linux.net/plugins.htm

In addition to what's listed in the instructions I also needed lesstiff-0.92.17-2mdk.i586.rpm which was on the first CD.

You could try to put them in manually. Note the flash plugin below. If I remove this line from the file Konquror crashes when I view a flash page. If I add it back Konquror displays the flash page happily.
Look in the file below and see if you have the plugin Then verify that it is actually in the directory it is supposed to be in. Then put the lines in the cache file after you make a backup copy and see if it works.

home/<user>/.kde/share/apps/nsplugins/cache
