Hello,
I found similar posts but did not see a solution. So I am posting the question again.
I have a IBM Think Pad Running Red Hat 6.2
I switch my laptop to Dual video or external then login.
When it first boots up everything looks good,
I get external display. When I startX
the laptop switches back to it's monitor.
What needs to be done within Linux in order
to allow for external monitor operation
when in X
Thanks in Advance,
Bruce M.

Your /etc/XF86Config is most likely setup to use the internal lcd screen. Try changing the monitor section etc. to use the external.

The laptop site mentioned in the hardware NHF's may point you to more info on the topic.
