Is it possible to create VCDs under Linux?

Ideally I would like to be able to combine a bunch of videos into one VCD. The video clips could be in a bunch of different formats (mpeg, divx, etc).

Does anyone have experience doing anything like this?

I'd just love to do the same thing. My question is which type of file gives you the best video quality? divx, mpeg, avi?

I cant help in the creation of VCD's in linux, I can say however that from my experience mpeg's make the best VCD's.

I only say this because they ussually maintain the most information from the original file, that is they are the least compressed at least in my experiences with them...

You can do all (X)(S)VCD in linux for free (like anything else :) :))

Start from here:

Google turns some good links too.

I am capturing from my DV camera (firewire) and making SVCDs to play on my DVD player. One thing I haven't found yet is making menus!! If you come up with something please post back.
