I currently have Win98 and am going to install Win2k this weekend. I have had Mandrake 8 on before with no problems (dual boot). I repartitioned my drive to make room for win2k and had to remove Mandrake.

Here's my question. After I install Win2k I want to put mandrake 8 back on. I have a 6bg partition waiting for it, but I'm wondering what I need to do as far as boot loaders go. I know I need to install Win2k first, and then Linux, but what about Lilo? Do I have it install lilo as normal, or do I have to put lilo on the linux partition? From what I have read I haven't found any clear answers. Just trying to learn it all..

hmm I sorta have a similar setup on one of my machines (linux/w2k). I installed Linux first only to discover that W2k would not install on anything but the first partition of the frikken drive. So I snipped off a couple of gigs for w2k on the front of the drive and put my Linux stuff on the end, then installed linux. (at this point I would REALLY REALLY recommend that you make a bootdisk, since w2k will nuke your linux boot loader) Then I installed w2k into the first partition, rebooted, and *tada* W2k replaced lilo with NT loader. Problem is, the NT loader can't see linux partitions (it probably can, but doesnt want to ;) ). Anyways, I used the boot disk I made to boot back into linux. Then I added my W2k drive to lilo.conf, wrote lilo back into the MBR and *boom* (good boom ;)) It works.

I like good booms :p

With that setup when you chose windows 2000 from lilo I wonder if it will then give me the NT boot loader (to chose from win98 or 2k)?
