usb extenders?

My zoo webcam project is coming along nicely... just need one more thing.

We need to run a LONG ways to get to where the computers will be from the camera.

Anyone use any of the USB extenders that work over CAT5 cable?

Something like:

Or is there a better way? Using longer runs of USB cables and powered hubs to do it is not an option...

you could get IP cameras that just run on the eth cable itself, though stay away from the dlink ones their picture is terrible

No money... using old off inventory computers, free software, etc. It will be hard enough to get the $100 extender I linked to and a $70 camera...

in that case good luck, i guess search around and try to find some sites that might have comments on it, newegg comes to mind maybe some users have commented on such devices

Hi, I found this http://www.x10.com/products4/google/home2.html. The X-10 system has been around a long time, I know it works, and may be a good solution. HTH.
