MD7.2, going into KDE is so slow... why?

I'm using MD72 and KDE, installed mcserv yesterday using the RPM included in the downloaded ISO. The box is a 300MHZ PII with 64MB RAM.

It work nicely for a month, but now logging in takes 15 min. Using XFdrake to reconfigure is not possible, X takes longer than 8 seconds (more like 5 min) to start.

why does this happen???

You must have editted one of your network configuration files. Most probably you have a mismatch between what the /etc/hosts file specifies for your computer and what you setup with Mandrake Drakconf Network Utility.

eg. Drakconf... joe.here.com 192.168.101.1
hosts alice.here.com 192.168.101.1

Since it worked fine for a month, I would imagine it's something you have installed/changed. Hard for us to tell. Have you had a look at your system logs?
