I know it's probably not a big issue with Linux, but is there any good Firewalls and Antiviruses made specifically for Linux? I probably won't need one, but better safe than sorry.

You can get AVG for Linux, but that is to scan the files for windows viruses so your mates don't get infected by you, the bright one, using Linux ;) As for firewalls, there are plenty, one with a nice graphical interface (sorry guys) that uses IP tables as a back end is guarddog...

I might suggest:
ClamAV (http://www.clamav.net/) for antivirus, although you really don't need it and
Firestarter (http://www.fs-security.com/) as an easy-to-use frontend for iptables.

For a software firewall that runs on your machine, I recommend FireStarter.

For a firewall that runs on a seperate box that protects your entire home network, check out IPCop.

To clarify, FireStarter is a gui frontend for iptables, both of which I would recommend.

As far as virus'ses's (viri?) goes, http://linuxmafia.com/~rick/faq/index.php?page=virus

its a long read, but good info.

If your machine is a host for a Windows file share, then you should use virus protection. Although linux wont be infected by virus's, it can absolutly host files that are infected and that can spread to other Windows machines
