As Apple employees not at WWDC, we got the opportunity to watch a live link in our cafeteria today. The new improvements to Mac OS X is wonderful. If anyone has seen the videos on Apple's Mac OS X "Leopard" website, you will know what I mean. The most useful preview item that excited me? Virtual desktop new and improved. If anyone has time, check out 'Spaces.' I can't wait until it's out.

I've used virtual desktops in KDE for so long now such things are old news to me.

Yeah, the functionality has been there for years. I've always loved virtual desktop. I just love how they improved it. I mean, adding more interactivity to the tool makes it so much more functional, in my honest opinion. If you watch the video, you may see what I mean.

I'd love to see a distro feature a similar improvement.

I have to say the presentation was nice, especially the new Mac Pro is impressive - I'd really like to get my hands on one of these.

However, as I look around the blogosphere, most reactions are disapointed. It was obvious that the Mac Pro is going to be shown and the features presented for Leopard are not exactly what you would call the biggest innovations. Well, yeah, there's the problem with the photocopiers in Redmond, I know.

Instead, Europe is speculating about Steve Job's health and is unison in the opinion that none of his replacments for the show can actually really replace him. This is currently the stuff that beats all features Apple presented.

I will wait for Leopard to come out and then I will grab one of those Mac minis. :)

Man, you make good points but why care about what they say on the blogosphere? The idea is to popularize *nix, isn't it? I mean, that's exactly what Mac OS X "Tiger" is. And, sure, everyone noticed Steve's appearance, but aren't assumptions the mother of all fckups? He ain't no spring chicken, after all.

Anyway, it's nice seeing old features we've all used for years being improved and put onto 'mainstream' OS's.

Don't aks such difficult questions in this forum. After all there are numerous posts in the blogosphere on the question wether it's significant or not. :D

Well, what's your interpretation on why he didn't do the presentation all by himself, then? Did he try out his potential successor? Did he want to give tech guys to talk to tech people? Or did he just have a bad night's sleep?

Anyway, it's nice seeing old features we've all used for years being improved and put onto 'mainstream' OS's.

Yes. A Mac mini with Leopard will be the best computing one can have for a very reasonable price.
