Mandrake 8.2 is here. I'm going to test it out. I'll let everybody know the pluses/minuses/etc after I test it out for a few days.

Edited:
I like the installation already - you are allowed to do an "absolute minimal" installation - 65 megs! Older computers aren't just for Slackware anymore! :D *

Yippiee!!!
Finally!!
Feels like I've been waiting a lifetime but now it's here. Got all three cd iso:s downloading right now, gonna install tomorrow. ****, I've got school work to do, but this is more important. What is a lousy little test (that's important for my grade and thereby my whole future) compared to the sensational release of my favourite dist. :)

You get my goat!!!! :D

All "stores"(ftp) are flooded with buyers. I'm always outside waiting. Will try again tonight.

It does stink that there are only 2 FTP servers right now that are listed. I'm hoping there were pulled down only because they were crowded and Mandrake wanted to let the current downloaders continue happily downloading...one can only hope.

I'll keep trying.

You sure? Mandrake versions I have are i586. Is 8.2 i586 or more? In that case a 386 or 486 install is out of the question.
Still lots of good things can be done with a minimal install. Mandrake has caught my intrest with that.
I have been a little bummed with the 8.0 I am using.
I enjoy having multiple distros to play with (very nice if there is a major problem with one; mail, internet, text editor are always available) but I am not about to upgrade major or minor version every few months.
I am very interested in any reviews of the new Mandrake.
I wish you luck with 8.2

Ahhh...I said "older" computer...not "ancient" computers. :D

And about the upgrading thing...I'm kind of fanatical like that. I enjoy testing out new things and having the newest thing on my computer. It's a disease. I know. I'm getting help.

See, here I am the opposite. I have one old PC that has a 486 with 4MB RAM that runs PTS DOS and connects to the internet VIA the Arachne browser on a 33K modem. Had Zipslack running on it for a while also.
On my main PC I have a VAX emulator running VMS.
Am fooling around with Bochs and hope to have Windows 1.x running soon.

Okay, I was dumb enough to look.
Too bad the 65MB mininum install is not available by itself.
I am going to install 65MB AFTER downloading a 650MB ISO??? NO.
I am going to install 65MB after purchasing a box set? Maybe.
I am able to try the impressive 65MB minimum install on a whim? No.
Oh, well....
