Hello all,

I'm running Suse 7.2, in the attempt of adding a 2nd drive to my system
I managed to break it.What I have now "fsck failed, please repair manually
and reboot. The root file system is currently mounted read-only." How do I
go about doing this?

The system asks to give root password to log in: <enter Password>
(repair filesystem) # fsck.ext2 /dev/hdb1
"attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying
to open /dev/hdb1. Could this be a zero length partition?"

This drive is 7.5G, had it partitioned this morning using YaST as follows:
/dev/hdb1 6.5G ( Primary) /apps (mounting point)
/dev/hdb2 1G ( extended) swap

fstab:
/dev/hdb1 /apps ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb2 swap

I tried to remove the drive but the result still the same, any ideas that
would very helpful.

Thanks,

If it were me I would try either repartitioning the drive (if there is nothing on it) or running a diagnostics on the drive.
I usually partition with a Linux or Windows floppy and format with the OS I am installing.
Better advice is surely forthcoming....

I was just thinking I had posted a reply to this question and was wondering what happened to it. It must have been in the other forum.
