mythtv and tvtime are two applications that leap to mind....

as jefro said, tvtime works great for watching tv and has xmltv integration, mythtv is a bit heavy for just watching tv but would work just the same, xawtv is less featureful than tvtime but works quite well, although it has terrible keybindings

you can also use mplayer
