I posted this a few days back, but the response I got was kinda vague. When I try to run licq, with or without the qt-plugin, I get;

08:34:42: [WRN] IniFile: Warning, failed to find key.
File = /root/.licq/owner.uin
Section = [user]
Key = "RCG"
08:34:43: [WRN] IniFile: Warning, I/O read error.
File = /root/.licq/owner.uin
Error = Too many open files
08:34:43: [ERR] Error opening '/root/.licq/owner.uin' for reading.
See log for details.

08:34:43: [WRN] Unable to create fifo:
File exists.
08:34:43: [ERR] Unable to start socket monitor thread:

(I know I shouldn't run it as root, but the error is the same for a user anyhow)
Last time I was told to edit a file... which one, and what changes do I make?

try deleting your ~/.licq directory
or rename it if you have had it working and don't want to lose your contacts :)

I should of mentioned that I haven't actually got licq going to start with... that error came up the first time I tried to run it. I'm using Debian, so I just used apt to install it.

oh, and I did try deleting the .licq directory... the same error occurs anyway
