Thought this was interesting, a download report in PDF format from the Entertainment Software Association (http://www.theesa.com/archives*******Essential%20Facts%202006.pdf) Now this was for the USA, not sure how well it would correlate to Canada, Europe, Asia, etc
* Average game player age is 33 years.
* 25% of gamers were over 50 years.
And most surprising to me:
*Women 18 years and older represent a significantly greater proportion of the game-playing population (30%) than boys age 17 years or younger (23%).

And the average age of the most frequent game purchaser is 40 years.
I love statisitcs, they are like a crystal ball, you can see what you really want to see in them.
Old farts like me can afford the newer computers and consoles- the young cannot.
Video and computer games online may be better than online dating for us older guys. Join a clan and 42% of them may be of the opposite sex.
Come on Linux, lets not dwadle and make me use Windows forever to play WOW and Elder Scrolls-Oblivion, I want to meet a cute Linux-using Elf online (hopefully of the female persuasion).
Hey, Parcival, you reading this? Go buy some computer and video games, meet the woman of your dreams.

Hey, Parcival, you reading this?

I read everything you write. ;)

As a matter of fact, the high percentage of women doesn't surprise me. What does surprise me is the high number on people over 50 years who play games.

To date women in Switzerland there are better ways than computer games. The Swiss clubbing scene has photographers who take pictures of the party crowd and load them onto the club's server after the party. There are also online chats where the party basically continues after the party's over. Great for gossip ("XYZ was seen with ABC") and make appointments for a date.

I am a memeber of an America's Army team that has 4 female members and 3 members over the age of 50. One of the guys is about 60 and his son and grandson all play. So this fits right in with what the study says.

BTW the females on the team are ruthless. I would not want to cross any of them.

Linux2? Is that a new distro? :)
I knew I wasn't alone, I just didn't realize the high pitch voice screaming at me over Xbox live was female instead of prepubescent.

No Linux version of Halo multiplayer unfortunately. But I do have a modded Xbox running Mediacenter and a version of Links for web browsing.

Well, it's perfectly acceptable to buy an Xbox to install Linux on it because that way one makes Microsoft loose money. However, when you buy their games you refuel their bombers. ;)

What about not buying the games...I mean thats illegal, no one should be pirating from a pirate...Or is it pirating to make a backup for a game renting company? :D

But Halo was such a good game.....I sold my soul to hear "Bad cyborg, bad" from the Covenant munchkins. I'll admit it.
And I did buy a Xbox 360, and I am enjoying Oblivion and I have to admre the Oblivion developers, they did a very good job.
Whew, I feel like a Catholic who just got out of the confessional. Relieved I didn't get struck by lightning and cost wasn't higher. ;)

Yeah, it is definatly too easy to sell your soul for 3d games, but you should not have to.
I'll admit to keeping a windows partition around to play World of Warcrap, but then again the gameplay is rather poor. We need more software coders to realize hey there is more to life that writing code, like writing free software games, or we need to get some gamers to write free software games. Unfortunatly, it seems to be one of thosse things easier said than done. My husband was working on a modification of the the crossfire server, but then he got to involved looking for a new job since he hates his current one. That takes up all his free time now. I would be doing it myself except I can barely write "hello world" and have been trying to improve my art skills.

OMFG, I always had such a positive impression of you throughout all these years - and you ruin it with a single confession. :D

Well, Halo can't be that good since I never played it and I don't feel like I missed anything. You better come up with a better reason. :p
