you don't have to save the extracted .tar.gz folder, right?

After you decompress a tar file and install it, you can delete this right??? I figure this to be the equilivent of a zip file, but never did delete these files for some reason. I can safely remove these right? I can't believe I haven't found this out yet...

Nope...you can safely delete those directories. However, I would reccomend keeping the tar.gz file...just in case you need it, depending on the hard drive space you have availible.
