I was sharing files over samba, and while waiting I wondered if there was any way to share files from a windoze PC to a Linux box using a USB cable. I remember doing something similar AGES ago with a Bi-directional printer cable and a program called Laplink. Can this be done? How ?

Honestly not worth the effort, simply carry a cross-over network cable with you wherever you go..... that's what I do.... faster anyways....

Honestly, had quite a few problems trying to get it to work in windows, didn't even bother again, with any OS.... Jut found that network is more reliable anyway...

Short answer: It is possible, via both parallel, RS-232x serial, and USB.

I believe that I have seen several OS solutions via web search wanderings. Google is your friend.

Qualifier: It is definitely a waste of one's time.

It requires a special cable called a USB host to host network cable. There are linux drivers but not all cables are supported.
Google for more info.
