Hi Folks,
Trying to install Redhat 7.1 from a bootable cd, but it just hangs. Win 98 and w2000 pro are already present and I'm using Partition magic 7 to create the partition.
I've tried numerious configuration, but to no avail.
The hardware is Dell Dimension XPS T600 P3 with 256 ram and 36 gig hard drive.
Any pointers ?
Many thanks
Hmm :(

Where did you get the CD from? bought or downloaded? If you downloaded it did you check the md5sum? Where does the installation hang?

I came across this article a few months ago, it might be the answer to your problem.

Thanks cheeky_zombie for ur response. It hangs just after u select the method of installation. i.e 'ENTER' to select GUI installation etc.
HTH

Thanks mumford61, I read the article. Interesting reading, I will give it a go.
Many thanks

Maybe your video card isn't supported. What video card do you have? Have you checked that it is supported? Go to xfree86.org.

The video card is a nvidia 32mb TNT2. I went to ur site suggestion, but couldn't see how it would help?
Why is it so difficult just to install an OS?
Thanks again

i once had errors during install, and i checked the jumper on the CD drive, it was set to Master so that could not be the problem, also i would get a lot of errors while burning CD-Rs and i went to my local computer store and bought a CDrom drive cleaner, it is just a audio Cdrom with these tiny little brushes on it and ran it, well after that my errors disappeared...

It would help as this site you tell you exactly what video cards are supported. Yours will work.

heh - you gotta love linux ;) It's not hard once the installation program works. Especially RedHat's! :)
Also, you never answered my question above about where you obtained the RedHat CD's. Downloaded? if so, md5sum?

Try not hitting Enter during the GUI installation and see how far you get. You can always install X later on and do the configuration. Cheeky will help you. ;)

I obtained 2 burnt copies of Redhat 7.1 , disk 1 and 2. It does look like it time to open the box.
