I d/w the new mandrake 8.0 and try to do an install...and....

I am also dual booting with win2k on seperate Harddrive/////then i am installing linux on my primary ata100 controller which is hooked to a seperate 10 gig drive

how do you set up the partitions on mandrake...I am trying to install mandrake 8.0 and dual boot with Windows 2000...I was always seem to screw up my master boot record and lilo will not load...

Can someone give me a step by ssetp on linux becasuse i am a "virgin-linux user". I need a step by step on the partition step up....because it has been a hassle installing win2k and mandrake over and over..

Last night it kept saying "error occurted missing basesystem package" What the heck is that?

i got a similar error, a mandrake help site suggested that that error indicates a bad .iso download. did you run the md5 checksum thingy after downloading ?
or did you just burn it?

i redownloaded the .iso and am now burning a new copy, will know in about 10 minutes if this new .iso is ok :) or not :(

as far as partitioning goes, if you are new to linux, i suggest you just keep it simple, just do 2 , a / partition with almost all the space, and a swap partition, with 200-300 mb of swap space
doing this onto a seperate drive is a good idea, keeps it a little easier
if you can't get the boot thing to work, just make the boot floppy and use it to boot, until you can get the boot trouble fixed/figured out

good luck!! :)

fdisk /mbr would do it if you have boot disk from windows or Linux..

not with Win2k. you need to boot off the install cd and do a recovery. have it fix the MBR.
