Back on widnows I have a very nice setup for how I blocked ads. I would add the addresses to the HOSTS file and re-route the address to a local web server, which was a blank website thus creating "no" ads. However, I got bored with windows and moved to linux. Gentoo linux to be exact. I am getting started and I would like to know if there is a windows equivalent of the HOSTS file in linux. or if theres not, how I would go about re-routing google.com to my local machine, insted of the actual google.com server. Thankyou in advanced.

/etc/hosts

you would be better to use firefox with adblock, though. Search the site.

If you use Firefox, you may want to check out Adblock anyways. It has a function to collapse the ads it blocks so they don't take up real estate on your screen.
