On Fedora 4 running on Dell 2400 today managed at last to get my new scanner running.
The chip on a LiDE 25 = LM9832/3 which is covered by the file in Sane for a plustek scanner and works well!

Commands: # sane-find-scanner
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/sane-devel/2005-July/014027.html
is the link that got me started:

# scanimage -L
gave 'plustek:libusb:002:002 is a Canon LiDE 25 USB Flatbed scanner :D

As a postscript to this thread, I have a Canon LiDE 30 USB scanner and I had zero success under Linux with it until I tried Ubuntu 5.10, it found and installed the scanner automatically, so I am happily using Ubuntu now, particularly as it also found my Canon S630 printer - no other distro did (and I've tried dozens!).

If you can tell me where to look for this information I will gladly tell you. I'm pretty certain it uses sane though.
