my friend has windows 2000 with a local lan and file sharing.
I can always find out his ip.

How do i connect to his system over the internet.
I have got linux mandrake.

Over the internet? Has he got broadband (DSL or Cable)? If you want to play games, all you need is his IP and make sure both you and he do NOT have a firewall up, or if you do, make sure the ports you are using are open on both sides.

If you mean for filesharing, the best bet (easiest) would be to set up an ftp. If you wanted to make it seem like a LAN, you would have to set up a VPN.

he has got isdn, i would like to sneek in if i could.
If not the lan option sounds great please tell me more.

If you want to set up a VPN you would have to set it up at both ends...therefore he would have to know about it and that would kill your "sneek in" approach.

"Sneeking in" sounds more like hacking than anything else...

I would talk to your buddy and see if he will set up a VPN w/ you.
