I have installed CUPS on Drake 7.2 and then used DrakeConf to install my printer (Epson Stylus 600). I selected the lpt1 option, but when i go to print, its not finding the printer. I did man CUPS, but that didn't tell me anything, it seems to be configured O.K. and my printer is connected to my parallel port.

I'm not a Mandrake user and have never used 'CUPS'. Do you actually need to install additional packages to use your printer? I would have thought you use DrakeConf, setup and configure your printer, the printer daemon and queue are setup and away you go. At least my distro works like that.
Is CUPS necessary and will your particular printer work in Mandrake without it?

How many lpt ports do you have?
How about lpt0?
Good Luck,

Err..."lpt1" is WinDOS-speak.
Your first Parallel port under linux is /dev/lp0.
Also see the other thread for kuber down below in this forum.

Yeah, old habits die hard, the printer is using /dev/lp0 - thats the linux equivalent of lpt1.
I only have 1 parallel port, I configured it in the kernel, So it should be there,
When i go to print its shows the printer - Epsom Stylus 600 and using lp0.
But nothing is getting sent to it
