How do you pronounce linux?
I've heard the "li" pronouced like the first part in lean(lean-x) and I've heard it like lie (lie-nx). And I was wondering which one is correct, I was pronoucing it like (lean-x) but then a few people were correcting me and telling me I was pronouncing it wrong, so now I've been saying like (lie-nx) and some people are correcting me about that. So which way is it?
or is both ways correct?
I was thinking that it was supposed to be like (lie-nx) because wasn't it named after linus????

this is always an issue for everyone... yet it's not very important..

i say it like with the "lin" rhyming with "in" then "ucks" rhyming with "ducks"

yet my boss says is sounding like "lie-nucks"
it's not a big dea... it's like how do you pronounce "sql"? i spell out the letters, my bosses say "sequel"

I agree with mandreko, I say it as "lih-nucks". I've also heard it as "lie-nucks".

I remember reading the offical way to say it is "lyn"-"ucks". I don't say it like that though, lol. It doesn't really matter to much.

I've always pronounced it lih-nucks, but it seems that pronounciation varies around the world. The idea of pronouncing it with a soft "i" makes sense, and has nothing to do with Linus' name. Linux was based on a UNIX variant called MINIX, in which the "i" was also soft.
Anyway, here are some interesting links to fuel the fire (hmmm... should we move this to the off-topic forum?):

"Hello, this is Linus Torvalds and I pronounce Linux Linux." That's the official wav file of the linux community. The above pronounciation is correct. I'm not a big fan of lie-nux...just doesn't sound as sexy :D

Well, you don't pronounce Linus "lie-nus" in Swedish. ;)
