Alright, not too long ago I got my new comp and I really miss Linux :(

The prob is that my HD is plugged in the ATA100 IDE plug (slot, whatever you want to call it) and is not detected by Linux. It is as if I had no HD (This I know because when I try to partition the HD with fdisk at the installation it says there is not HD!!!) See my problem... I got another HD (a 4.1 gb) and plugged it into the IDE slot. I can know install Linux and everything except I have to use a bootdisk (and too damn slow, takes like 5 min, thrust me... gets annoying) and even so I can't acces my win HD (plugged into the ATA100 IDE). Can't install lilo as the mbr because can't detect my main HD.

Any ideas guys... anything I am willing to try here. I want Linux!!!

Hehe, funny you should ask, I'm in the exact same boat! Right now I'm sticking with the floppy bootdisk, but I did a newsgroup search and found a few links you might be interested in.

Link 1 (http://www.geocities.com/ender7007/index.html)
Link2 (http://www.themonsens.org/michaelfamily/a7v_and_mandrake_7.2)
Link3 (http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/hardware/hbits5.html)

Some of these links link to the others, but they all offer some good descriptions on how to setup a Promise(hopefully that's what you have) ATA100 controller on an Asus A7V/133. I suppose I'll get off my butt and try the setup too. :p

Good luck.

I've been running that setup since December. The key is to compile support for the promise controller into the kernel. Yes, there is support, I have it on my 2.4 kernel at least. Until you get that, you can use the old ide2=0xasd;lfkj,0xpaiaspf trick (see the udma 66 NHF for more info on it) but that won't let you see the whole hard drive, once you're on the kernel with support there are no probs. :)

Will not let you see the whole drive using a pre-4 kernel? I'm still using kernel 3.3.6 with a Promise ATA100 (ide2=...) and have no problems seeing the whole drive in Linux or anyother os.

It is an Asus A7V/133, thank you guys so much :) I'll get on it right now.

Thanx again.
