Hello,
I have a crappy Windmodem, and I would like to get on the internet someday.... And I'm looking for an cheap good modem. I find that extrenal modems can get expensive... I just want a good, cheap modem that will work... Or it can be internal if they are any good internal modems... Any Suggestions?
Thanks for your time.

I believe all ISA cards are A-OK with linux, but linux itself prefers a dandy external one.
I got a 33k6 ISA I wanna throw away right here.
Find yourself a good one here (http://www.linhardware.com/).

try to stay away from ISA, only because a lot of distros now don't enable the 'isapnp' stuff upon install, and it can get messy if yer a newbie :)
I've seen internal PCI modems work in Linux. One I had a while back was an internal PCI 'call waiting' modem, and it worked fine. I can't remember who the maker was, but it said 'works with Linux' right on the box, and sure 'nuf, it did.

hey Trigger, I like internal modems, and you can get PCI ones that'll work with linux, kernel 2.3 and up.
US Robotics has a good one, PCI Performance Pro. I don't really have room for an external on my cluttered desk, so I prefer internal, I found this one and it works great, it even says linux compatible on the box....

I used to believe "real men" use internal modems.
Internal modems are fine...usually...
But for ease of use...setup...doesn't matter about the OS...go external...
Modems get "locked up" now and again and have to be reintialized...only way to do that with an internal is a hard boot. External...poweroff-poweron.
I have a "modem blaster 56k"
It loves linux...tolerates win.

I've used both PCI and ISA internals in Linux on several distros and I find the PCI modems easier to configure.
The ISA's can be a bear to figure out.

Ok, Thanks for all of the suggestions! I was looking on pricewatch.com and I found some cheap external modems that work with Linux... Like $25.00 cheap ones.... Can you trust that they are actally good and work? Because there is no picture....
Read Redhat's Hardware Compatibility List FAQ (http://hardware.redhat.com/redhatready/cgi-bin/us/genpage.cgi?pagename=faq), then check the lists. Even though they're Redhat specific, the lists are a pretty good indicator.
The Hardware HOWTO (http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO.html) deals with compatibility issues as well, although it's a little out of date.
