Has anybody ever been able to get XINE to work? Windows, right now, is around strictly to play my DVDs, and to play CounterStrike. If I can start playing DVDs in Linux, that's one less reason to boot into Windows.

If someone can't help with XINE, do you have any other recommendations for programs that play DVDs?

Xine has always worked for me. They're are plenty of posts pertaining to getting xine working just do a search for it (see search function in upper right hand corner).

Ogle also compiled and worked like a charm.
It even has menus.
only problem is that it wouldn't work with the supplemental disc of FightClub. It had problems decrypting it I believe. Any fixes out there?
Anyways check out Ogle. http://freshmeat.net/projects/ogle/

Xine is cool, i had some troubles my self to install it, but finaly i made it, first you must install the pakdges that are needed before you install xine.
You have to edit a file to point to the xine where are the libs, for him to compile.
post here the errors, to see if i can help you. Hasta :D

What packages are needed before I install Xine. I thought it came with everything. (According to the website I was looking at, it did.)

I tried the help file on www.linux.com. (http://www.linux.com.) Didn't work, however. I'm not sure exactly what I did wrong. (I followed it to the letter.)

I'll give Ogle a try too.

Thanks for any help.

Just tried Ogle. Didn't seem to work. Everything just kind of sits there, and then...dies. So sad.

I just download and compile the following

xine-lib

And then add the path to the Xine libs to /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig.

xine-ui

Run ldconfig again

xine_d4d (under Captain CSS (I think) on the Xine homepage)

Again rerun ldconfig.

You may have problems with Xine 0.93 and 0.94 if you are using kernel 2.4.10 and later.
