I am running redhat6.2, before i shutdowned it worked properly. but after i return from lecture, and i turned on computer, loged in, and tried to statx X, I am told X cannot be started. I don't know how to repair it.i tried setup Xconfiguration. but now it can only do 460*680 at 8, before this it can do this at 16. i think i will have to reinstall redhat. but i have many programms installed.
i can not move all the files downloaded to floppy disk, it is too much. Can i reinstall without loseing this programms, just refresh the system, like in windows? but how to do it? is there anyone tried to do this? Please tell me your exprience! Thanks for help in advance!!! :(

Try reinstalling without formatting any partitions. If you can do this then the newly installed files should overwrite the other system files on your disk and leave others alone.

I think this should work. I can't think of a reason why it shouldent, as long as you dont re-format.

If I reinstall mine, I get a fresh installation.

Why not post the error message you get when starting X? Maybe we can help.

Sounds like you just need to edit your XF86Config (or XF86Config-4 for 4.0.1 and up) and specify your default resolution and color depth. You shouldn't need to reinstall anything.
