I'd like to be able to remotely wake up a desktop PC from my server. The BIOS menu has options for wake-on-lan and wake-on-modem-ring, however I couldn't find a place to attach the WOL cable on the motherboard. Is it possible that WOL could somehow work without the cable? Also, can a null-modem cable be used to invoke the wake-on-modem-ring feature? Everything google gave me was about WOL and told to attach the cable first.

if the NIC is built into the motherboard, a cable is not required, you just need to use a wakeonlan program

It isn't, unsurprisingly :/
