When I start playing games like Tribes 2, HL under WINE or start up Zsnes I got this very odd high pitch sound that will not go away into I close the game. If anybody know how to fix something like this or have any ideas on how to please post and try to help me out. I have a SB Live! running on RedHat 7.2.

If your mixer is "mixer"(kde) you will see a simbol near the volume, i realy don't know the name of that, but when he is at the maximum sometimes he makes odd sounds! If you wish i can send you a picture of the mixer

open your mixer. mute everything you don't use. Line-in, mic, etc. This fixes lots of hums and random annoying drones from the soundcard. If you DO use your Line-in, only unmute it when you need to use it. Otherwise keep it muted.

Try those first and if the problem still occurs I offer some things to think about.

1. Try changing the slot the Live is in. I just went through hell with a Live and it turned out it simply wasn't happy in that particualr PCI slot.

2. Try a different module. In the past I have had trouble with some of the modules (http://opensource.creative.com) (or did you say you were using the kernel one?).

Just some things to think about. Good luck.

Hmmmmm, do you think it's my joystick that's gaving me the odd sounds? I never have any problems before with my sound in any game.

Quite possible, especially if the sound varies as you move a peripheral device such as a mouse or joystick around the screen. The inside of your box is full of RF interference, and your sound card is the component which will yell at you about it. The proximity of your sound card to other "noisy" cards in your system, or badly grounded/shielded cables can cause the card to pick up and amplify that noise.
If that's the case, take manual_overide and --C4--'s advice. Also, open your box and moving the audio cabling as far as possible from any data cabling.

No, I haven't try to move my Sound Card around and stuff like that. See the funny thing is Quake 3 and UT works just fine. It's HL , Tribes 2 and the Zsnes Emulator are making the odd noise when it starts. Both Quake 3 and UT see my joystick too. So I guess I'll try to reload my sound modules if anything. Besides I'm using the kernel drivers and they always worked in the pasted.

I when to the Creative's Open Source drivers page and try to install the new drivers from the source snapshot. I can't load the new drivers and now I'm soundless for the time being. I would format and reinstall but that's not how I like to do things.

/lib/modules/2.4.9-13/kenrel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol kernel_flag

/lib/modules/2.4.9-13/kenrel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.9-13/kenrel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o failed

/lib/modules/2.4.9-13/kenrel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: insmod emu10k1.o failed

Thats the error message I'm getting. Oh and keep in mind that I type all that in because the "/sbin/modprobe > sound.out" didn't work. If anyone know how to fix this please let me know. I do now want to format my computer to setup it all over again. :(

Any can help me? If not then I'll format, but I would like to learn how to install from the CVS without blowing up my computer. :D
