What are the pros and cons of each and which one would be the better one for a Linux newbie planning on using Mandrake 7.2?

I use KDE. GNome looks pretty cool, but KDE is more comfy/cozy in that it looks and feels similar to the Windows desktop environment. I am, of course assuming you'll be coming from windows like myself and a bunch of other linux users. With mandrake, your default will probably be KDE but you have the option of switching to other desktop environments when you log in. Check those out; can't hurt.

Lightweight, decent amount of features, true desktop environment complete with drag-n-drop and cut-n-paste. Optional KDE/Gnome imports. Not a bad system at all. What I like most about it is that it's lightweight.
