confused about WINE

i want to install wine but was confused by the manual i was reading. is wine run at the console by executing programs from the windows partition? or is there a GUI that can simulate the bootup of the windows drive and show the desktop in a window?

WINE is basically run at the console, with:

wine ms-dos-program

I think it is only able to run graphical programs (as you can only use wine within X), but if it's a Windows program, then obviously it's graphical :D.

And I don't think that you can use wine to run your desktop in a window. VMWare (http://www.vmware.com) is better suited for that.

A newbie tip is to try codeweavers wine. I found more simple. Especially the installation, and there's a good installation guide on their site. I couldn't manage to install and configure the normal wine. Nothing for newbies like me :)
