Kernel 2.4.17 and 2.4.18pre1

I got an interesting problem with kernel 2.4.17 and also 2.4.18pre1 they just reboot fine but when I try yo shutdown it comes until to the

Power Down

part and doesnt power off.Anyone have an idea or observed this?Btw I enabled acpi support would that be a problem?

You need apm not acpi and the apm module loaded before you issue the poweroff (shutdown -h now) command.
