Uninstalled openoffice from Debian Sarge and then installed its writer again from an rpm file using alien (to convert the rpm package to deb). This didn't seem to work - couldn't get oo to run - so uninstalled it and tried to replace origional from the official Debian CDs.

On this installation apt-get reported problems with ispell, hyphenation, thesaurus, and stuff. Mysteriously it wittered on a lot about sourceforge, but these didn't seem to be error reports.

Oo works well and fast but doesn't have spell correction and presumably hyphenation, etc..

So it worked origionally but has now stopped working fully. I purged it before trying last install. Thanks any help.

For the record:

Basic error message was: 'update-openoffice-dicts: command not found'.

Found this @ http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.openoffice/month=20040101

update-openoffice-dicts is in dictionaries-common which is installed,
otherwise dpkg would complain about unsatified dependency.

Either dictionaries common's install is broken and you should fix it by
reinstallling ir (apt-get install --reinstall dictionaries-common) or
/usr/sbin isn't in your (root's) paths, which is a serious flaw on your
side which should be corrected.
