i have installed icewm but how to add it to the window manager selection menu?

hmmm. I am a new user, just got Mandrake 8.0 yesterday. It would help if you clarify how you installed icewm - i.e., rpm or .tgz, and maybe other details.
I assume you mean the xdm menu when users first log in. With Mandrake (and i assume RH), when I installed icewm using their package management tool, it automatically added to the menu of xdm.
You could try to find out where the config file for xdm is...edit it by hand...
