Help, im stuck again

I have a dell pc that came with dellnet msn explorer. i just installed mandrake 8.1 and cant configure the internet.
my email is almost like hotmail, its web based email, when i log in i go straight to msn.dellnet.com.
i tried ipconfigure in windows but it doesnt display long enough to read anything.
my modem is us robotics 56k voice pci, linux does recognise it but =says it isnt responding. dell says it is compatible with linux.
any ideas?

no i cant, i got an error stating, sorry, modem does not respond,

According to Mandrake's website, Mandrake 8.1 DOES NOT support US Robotics PCI modem - and, currently, no other distro will as it is a WinModem!
