list of compatible hardware
===========================

::i'm in the process of buying a new monitor. i just wanted to know if there was some list online somewhere that shows which monitors (and other hardware) are compatible with *various* linux distros.

i've used RedHat before, but i want to try another distro.

::in addition, is there a list of NON-compatible hardware?

routers
=======

i wanted to build a router box, using linux.

::are there any programs that any of you could recommend such as LRP and the like?

::what hardware requirements would i need?

thanx

i think i'll be right with the FIRST request. i'd still like feedback on my request re ROTUERS.

thanks

With monitors, as long as you have a reference as to it's horizontal-sync/vertical-refresh and it's maximum resolution you can use it with Xfree86.

have a look at Freesco for a router solution. Hardware requirements for a router are minimal - reliability is what you are after , not grunt.

Small HD , some RAM - don't need to much and some reliable NICS. There's plenty of people around using 486's as routers quite successfully.

I've also used freesco flawlessly for 2 years with a cable modem. BTW, a hard drive is optional for freesco.
