I've recently (this morning) installed SuSe 10 RC1, and as I was triyng my new O.S.'s capabilities I'd discover I cannot listen to MP3!!!! The rest of system, sounds good, just media players...
Should I download any codecs as in WIN¿?¿? Wich ones should I download knowing I use linux for internet & multimedia¿?¿?
Thankx, guys!!!

you might want to fire up yast and see if libmp3 or related is availble through it
Yeah, your going to cry when I tell you this.
You have to hunt down all the RPMs that where in the Multimedia packs that came threw an update on version 9.3.
Go to:
ftp://ftp.ale.org/pub/suse/i386/update/9.3/patches
then read the patch files for Multimedia packs 1-4, and then download all the rpms it has listed from ../rpm
the list would be for multimedia pack 1
bmp-0.9.7-10.nosrc.rpm
gstreamer-plugins-0.8.8-13.nosrc.rpm
k3b-0.11.22-3.src.rpm
kdemultimedia3-3.4.0-14.src.rpm
libtunepimp-0.3.0-6.src.rpm
mad-0.15.1b-31.src.rpm
baselibs-32bit-9.3-7.src.rpm
mad-0.15.1b-31.src.rpm
python-mad-0.5.1-95.src.rpm
xine-lib-1.0-10.nosrc.rpm
xmms-1.2.10-68.src.rpm
*oops I got all the source rpms, replace src with i586*
You can look inside the patch files, and figure out for the other multimedia packs.
then rpm -i --nodeps --force *.rpm all of theis, and for xine to be able to use mp3 support, you need to copy the contents of /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.0.0 to /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.0
I know it's a *****, and in 9.3 all you had to do was click on something in the updater to get them. Hopefully it will be that way when 10.0 final comes out Oct 6.

try using Zinf
http://zinf.sourceforge.net/
I found xmms errored on some of my 320kb mp3's, but Zinf plays em all just fine.

If you don't really care about the particulars, and you want a fast, easy wat to play mp3s without tracking down any rpms, you can always install RealPlayer. I'm also pretty sure you can get something that plays mp3s by using apt-get.
