I'm running a straight-out install of Red Hat 7.0 (selected "install everything" in installer). Can I use the new 2.4.4 kernel with this distro? I need the On-board SiS chipset stuff it provides...

You might have to update some of your other packages, like modutils. Check the readme files included with the kernel for more information. But you should be able to do it just fine.

I upgraded a box that was running RH7.0 to 2.4.4 with no probs whatsoever.

I did the same thing, update a box 7.0 to 7.1 everything when fine. But the only trouble i had was with my ssh . I reinstalled it, but if you have any program that you dont want to miss up dont install it .
