How to restart proftpd without rebooting the machine?

This should be an easy question but I couldn't find the answer anywhere. How to restart proftpd without rebooting the machine?

what I do, is kill main proftpd process and then start it again (I think the same method is stated in docs somewhere also)

In most distros you just do (depending on where your startup files are):

/etc/init.d/proftpd restart

or...
proftpd stop and.....
proftpd start
