Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Is there a distro i can download without a cdrw? stick 04-16-2001, 12:13 AM I have no burner... but am on roadrunner (cable modem).... sincka 04-16-2001, 12:21 AM Yeah man... get Debian. http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/disks-i386/current/images-1.44/ Go to the place above and download root.bin and rescue.bin then: http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/disks-i386/current/dosutils/ and download rawrite2.exe Put rescue.bin, root.bin and rawrite2.exe into the same folder then just dclick on rawrite2.exe and stick a floppy into the drive and write one of the above to the disk then replace that disk and do the same to the other... then at the installation chose NFS or you'll see it and booyay :) kuber 04-16-2001, 12:44 AM  Slackware  stick 04-16-2001, 12:44 AM how will i get the rest of the distro? will i be able to get my cable modem to work? sincka 04-16-2001, 12:50 AM Yeah dood. It will fetch all the packages and then install them :) Anyway Slack is also very good but I would rather go for Debian because of something called 'apt-get' (sorry that I'm talking to you like you know nothing about Linux, but I don't know if you are a newbie or not) So anyway... you'll see at the selection (it will ask you how you want to install it) you just choose the network, setup you NIC and you're ready to go :) stick 04-16-2001, 12:55 AM thanks,... I will give it a try... (here goes nothing....) debiandude 04-16-2001, 12:55 AM You also need the driver disks too becuase you need to select you ethernet card. Do you know which module your ethernet card uses. If not check: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/network/nicmodules.html You need to know that information before you install! Good luck. sincka 04-16-2001, 01:00 AM If you have more questions about this and want to e-mail me then just do it: sincka@hotmail.com Good luck :) stick 04-16-2001, 01:16 AM thanks all... you are very helpful... I actually have a floppy that claims to have the driver for linux...???/ not sure how THAT is installed... my nic is a "CNET pro200(b)PCI ethernet adapter " ... didn't see it on that list... ??? sincka 04-16-2001, 05:10 AM If there is a floppy that came with your NIC then you can go in the Linux dir (in the floppy) then see what is says about the card (usually says what kind of driver you need). justlinux.com
