I have installed the most recent stable mozilla release (0.8.1). I love it and it rocks. The only problem I have had is getting java support installed. I tried getting the netscape plugin but it never installs. I get the jre.xpi file in my /tmp directory but after it downloads mozilla quits and does nothing. So is there something that I need to do with that file?? Thanks!!!

I tried the autoinstall feature using 0.8.1 and Mozilla kept crashing after the download box popped up. I downloaded the latest nightly (2001041521) and tried the same thing with it, no problems, it automatically installed java support so all I had to do was restart Mozilla and everything worked. This nightly was also noticeably faster then 0.8.1

I also went and got the installer file for that build and installed it and it didn't worth crap for me. I couldn't get pages that used ssl to open and animated gifs looked messed up. Any other ideas or just wait for the next release.

well after you install it using the nightly you could always copy your ../mozilla/plugins dirctory somewhere else, install 0.8.1 and put the files back. I didn't actually try this but it should work.
I just tested it, SSL works in the windows build of that nightly but not in the linux build, kinda annoying. No problems here with animated gifs or anything else immediately obvious though.
You can also download java from sun including the netscape plugin I think.

Launch mozilla as root, then go to http://java.sun.com You need write access to install the jave plugin, and the easiest way to do it is to just do it as root.
