Mastering Linux Premium Edition
The moral of the story is read read read. Read everything you can. I would focus on the books at the LNO bookshelf.
Read read read. Ask question here if you need, but read all you can.

practice, practice, practice,
Make a list of things you want to be able to do. (get online, share files, print, X, etc...)
Tackle them one at a time.
Don't be affraid to reinstall. Anyone who is any good at any OS has installed it countless times.
Feel free to ask questions here.
Use http://www.google.com/linux for researching errors.
Anything you want to do, someone has done before.
It's no shame to use "How-To's"
Try differnet distros!!!
Distros are not created equal.
The one for you may be different than the one for me.
Look for a LUG (Linux user group) in your area.
Have Fun and Good Luck,
