funny, all hardware i've EVER owned has had something like this happen with it...
i have a turtle beach soundcard with the Vortex 2 chip in it...
i had the Intel i810 chipset with my old celeron, and when i had it, there was NO support within linux, so i ditched the 300mhz 64 MB ram, for my current 200mmx with 128...

my other soundcard, CMI8330, won't work in linux either.. there's an NHF for it, but it doesn't work on my system.

it sucks... all the hardware i get needs work done in order to get it to work... all of it. lots of work. i don't have ANY devices that just go from the start...

i'm not complaining, just sayin...
