Suddenly when I try to access anything on the web I get a message that the host is unknown. I can log on without any problem but can't reach any sites. I can use the same account with no problems from my wonderfully handy windows partition. Can someone tell me what is up?
(using mandrake 8.0)
Thanks,
SW

Sounds like a DNS issue. Do you have the proper nameservers listed in /etc/resolv.conf? It should look something like this:
nameserver 111.111.111.111
nameserver 222.222.222.222
It does sound like a DNS issue, but dependng on your network configuration, it could also be a problem with your default gateway or other settings. Try to ping this address: 209.133.27.161. If you can contact this machine and get a reply, you have DNS problems. If you get errors involving "xxx not found" or "xxx unreachable, you've got something wrong with your basic network settings in Mandrake.
Can you ping your NIC's IP while running Mandrake?
How do you connect to the Net?
