Lpd is running but when I do lpr -Plp1 test it says that job has been queued but it was not able to start the daemon. I did /usr/sbin/lpd restart and still nothing. I have tried using magicfilter and now apsfilter. I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Mis

It's normal for the printer device to be lp0 (unless you have more than one parallel port) - try it without -P so that the default is used.
Also, support for parallel printers needs to be compiled into the kernel (if it's a stock kernel, it's probably ok)

Ok I tried printing again with lpr test with no printer specified and when I did lpq it said that the job was active and that lp was printing. The printer was not printing. I checked an dlpd was running. I did lprm <job#> and it then said the job was bing dequeued then gave error about not being able to restart daemon. I checked and it was not running anymore. Does this give nay more clues to someone? Does it matter that my printer is attached through my scanner(which is not working in Linux, but does have power)? And yes it is the stock kernel, do you need to know what modules are loaded as well? I know parport and lp are, what else would I need printer wise?

Thanks, Mis

Have you tried using your printer when it is not connected to the scanner?

No, but I will try it when I get home. It is also running through the zip drive ???

It goes PC-zip-scanner-printer. I will try direct hookup when I get home and go from there. WOuld that cause problems with the daemon?
