Has anyone downloaded the 30 day subscription of RedHat AS or ES? I'm curious of what happens after the 30 days. Any ideas? Does the OS vaporize?????

From RH's web site.

Your 30-day evaluation subscription will allow you to:

* Download Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
* Access Red Hat Network for updates and security patches
* Access Red Hat Knowledgebase for technical information and advice

No, I don't think it will vaporize but you won't be able to download any updates (which is very important, mostly security updates).

If you're not willing to subscript to Red Hat AS/ES, then I'd suggest you to use Fedora instead.

I'd suggest CentOS, which is actually, RHEL, without the branding or proprietary tools. Go to www.centos.org to download it.

CentOS does use the freely available tools, like up2date, yum and almost all of the tools available from any Red Hat install.

I really have been impressed with CentOS. I'm using it as my primary Linux box now for home.
