All props go to serz for pointing this out (to me at least) but this seemed to be a good idea for a sticky in the iso confused? forum?
Linux Distribution Chooser (http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/)
This might already have been mentioned in here. Not being iso-confused, I don't come in this area much. ;)
What do you say, moderators?

I had to take it twice to get slack, guess thats why its still in beta :D

No, I haven't seen anyone mention it. I actually heard about that site in another forum and I thought that it'd be good to start pointing it out when people asks for a distribution.
Your idea doesn't sound bad at all, let's see what the other mods think about it.

Yeah, I took the test once and I wondered why I didn't get Slackware as a choice... but that's alright, it's still in beta after all.

My experience is that it is never accurate nor precise. I randomly get all those rpm-based distros which I've vowed not to use a long time ago.
but sometimes I get gentoo and debian too, and sometimes slackware. Anyway, they are not to be taken seriously IMHO and have too few choices.
Yeah, that's true..it's not very precise but this might give an idea to all those people that are so lost when it comes to choose a distro.

I managed to get fedora, gentoo and slackware on the first go.
Of course, of those three, I use slackware on my desktops and servers....

I got Gentoo and Slack, I'm using Gentoo so I guess it's not too bad :D
A lot of the questions seemed to suggest that they have existing Linux knowledge (how many newbies know the difference between Gnome and KDE?)
I was going to take the test a second time with a newbie mindset, but it looks like their PHP has crashed or at least giving me errors :p

found a bug...
click 'take the test'
then hit the back button on your browser
the only way to take the test again is to clear the cookie....or wait for it to expire.
just a piece of useless information...

I don't think it's too bad. The first two choices it gave me were Lycoris and Mandriva. Lycoris is now a part of Mandriva and Mandriva is what I currently use. So it wasn't too far off  I also agree that it isn't going to be dead-on accurate but it wouldn't be too bad of a starting point for someone who knows nothing about what each of the distributions has to offer. Especially since on the results page it gives a decent summary of each of the distros that it has chosen for you.
It gave me Gentoo and Slack. I'm on Gentoo and Slack is in my top three.

Kinda neat tool/toy, and a fairly dynamic site that didn't make me want to kill myself. Cool.
Makes me want to create one... asks a bunch of questions, then just spits out www.distrowatch.com at the end.

I got the exact same results, and the exact same error. Just clear your cache/cookies then it works again.
