Hi there all,
I have recently purchased a Athlon 64 PC. I wish to install IA64 on a SATA drive.

I downloaded the Debian #1 ISO and burnt the CD. I do this farly regularily with the I32 version and burn as an ISO disk. Using WinExplorer I view the CD and I can see all the files.

Now when I boot the Athlon with the IA64 CD it does not boot. However, if I reboot with the I32 then I get to the boot menu. What gives?

I do not understand why the I32 boots and the IA64 does not.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks :D

So now I booted up with the I32 version and went for broke, but..........the version did not recognise the SATA drive. What to do now? The oddity is that the perntium version (on the same hard drive does boot up but fails on modules), how do I get around this prob.?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

The IA64 architecture on debian is for 64 bit chips from INTEL. I think you'll have much greater success with your Athlon 64 if you use software compiled for the AMD64 architecture.

However, that doesn't explain why the 32 bit version (which is x86) didn't recognize your SATA drive.

Get an amd64 install disc. Not ia64 or whatever...

I cannot find an install ISO image for AMD64, am I just blind? I get lots of arch in Debian site but the Aliothserver is bits 'n pieces. Anyone can help me?

I tried the I32 however it migh be that the box is a Packard Bell. I cannot determine the SATA chips as it converts everything into IDE, so it appears. Seems strange to me. In XP going through the devices I cannot see any SATA controller indicated. Any ideas how to get around this?

If I were you I'd grab the netinstall from here:
